Director of Special Events and Membership

The Director of Special Events and Member Engagement leverages their passion for and knowledge of the Jewish experience to increase engagement among current members. Major responsibilities include the planning and implementation of programs, lifecycle events, and holiday celebrations. The Director of Special Events and Member Engagement is part of Congregation Shalom's professional team.

The Director of Special Events and Member Engagement:
Works with lay leadership (i.e. Committee Chairs) the clergy, administrative staff, and members, to create and implement a holistic vision of the member experience and the yearly cycle of events. This vision serves as the basis for the development of a member recruitment plan as well as a member engagement plan.
Employs programming strategically as an opportunity to deepen engagement with the synagogue and to strengthen and build connections among congregants. Programs should appeal to congregants across the age spectrum and meet the emerging and identified needs of congregants.
Provides support to congregants who are interested in serving in a volunteer capacity.
Plans and implements holiday celebrations including the High Holidays, Chanukah, Purim, Passover, Shavuot, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah.
Assists members when they are planning life cycle events and coordinates all administrative and logistical arrangements for life cycle events.
Works closely with the kitchen staff in planning the menus and overseeing food preparation for programs, Shabbat services, and other events.
Attends member programs and solicits feedback from members regarding events.
